The last famous Amazon warrior I can recall is Wonder Woman, but you won’t find any golden lasso or super-charged bracelets on this 5×3 reel slot from WMS.

Instead, we have a new “Queen of the Wild” that gives her name to this Amazon-themed slot.

The queen herself sits on either side of the reel, armed with a spear and a supporting cast of the jungle’s most exotic creatures.

Overview: Queen of the Wild

The Queen of the Wild slot is a somewhat standard 5×3 reel game that boasts a couple of exciting features.

The backdrop is the rainforest, and the reels are part of an ancient temple. The low symbols are your standard playing card suits, and the high value symbols include an assortment of jungle creatures.

The main feature is the wild symbol (a jungle clearing), which can substitute for any high or low value symbol on reels two, three, and four.

There is also a stacked scatter, the Queen of the Wild, who will trigger the free spins bonus game when you land three or more of her symbols anywhere across the reels.

Who will the Queen of the Wild slot appeal to?

It may seem a bit crude to say so, but for any players who enjoy a little eye candy, the queen has certainly been rendered for the gaze of the player. But it’d sell the slot short to chalk its appeal up to that.

There are some rather nifty features. I landed more big value payouts on this slot than any other.

Yes, the gameplay is somewhat simplistic, as are the sounds and presentation. But the key features of the slot, the gorilla symbol (which wins both ways across the reels), and the free spins round make this game worth it.

The gameplay is somewhat basic.

You can set the size of your bet by altering either the number of paylines (from one through to 20) or the size of the bet per line (from $0.01 to $2), which means that you can get the reels spinning from as little as $0.01 or as much as $40 per spin.

That puts this slot firmly in the mid-range of slots online in New Jersey.

It is likely to appeal to lower stakes to mid-stakes players, though the generous wins available will also make it likely that Queen of the Wild will be attractive to higher rollers, too.

In terms of variance, I’d say this is more a medium variance game. But as I said earlier, this is the game on which I have won most while reviewing.

I tended not to win regular small amounts when trialling the game, but instead I would go several spins then win a larger amount, then hit a dry spell, then hit another larger win, and so forth.

When wins do hit, they’re generally good value and come in at about the same size as your stake, or several times more. Additionally, I triggered a couple of really big wins (one that was more than 120 times my total stake) that really helped boost the bank balance.

Of course, this is not how the slot always plays, so I am wary of painting the wrong picture. But in my experience, the win size was better than on other medium variance games.

However, good bankroll management is still essential to getting the best out of the slot.

The wild feature is incredibly useful for hitting those wins and can substitute for all symbols on the reels bar. It only appears on reels two, three, and four and can be stacked. When it is stacked, the bigger wins become possible, or if you land more than one wild across the reels.

The scatter symbol triggers the free spins round, which is enjoyable enough. You can earn 10 free spins for three scatters, 25 free spins for four, and a huge 100 free spins for five scatters, although this is rare.

You can re-trigger free spins an unlimited amount of times by landing three or more Queen of the Wild symbols on the reel in the round. With alternative reels and those stacked wilds still in play, this is where the bigger wins can come.

Finally, the gorilla symbol produces some great wins, and it can pay out both left to right and right to left across the reels. Land three or more across the reels stacked and this can result in some huge payouts in the base game. (My big win came this way, and several smaller wins too.)

Higher value symbols, such as the tiger, snake, parrot, and gorilla, are stacked across the reels. This can help produce multiple payline wins, especially when a wild symbol or two are landed in conjunction with these symbols.

Land three or more of the Queen of the Wild scatter symbols across the reels and you can win 10, 25, or even 100 free spins, which can be re-triggered a limitless number of times from within the bonus round.

Gorilla symbol wins both ways

The highest paying symbol, the gorilla, is stacked three high across the reels and can pay both ways across the reel, from left to right or the opposite way.

The fact that the gorilla symbol offers players the chance to win both ways across the reels is a huge bonus in the base game. Not only does it keep losing spins after three reels alive, but can also result in some massive base game wins.

Big wins

Queen of the Wild tends to offer better-value wins, especially in the base game, than most other medium variance slots.

Stacked wilds

The stacked wilds, along with the high symbols being stacked, can help produce some tidy smaller wins in the base game. This keeps your balance topped up and is crucial for when the slot hits a tighter run of spins.

What doesn’t?

Free spins hard to hit

One of the more frustrating aspects of the slot without a doubt is that it can be difficult to trigger free spins. Bigger base game wins seem to be more regular than hitting a free spins bonus.

Rarely hit 25 or 100 free spins

When you do finally hit free spins, you are likely to get only 10. Twenty-five free spins is infrequent, and I have not yet managed to hit the 100 free spins bonus.

Presentation lacking

While Queen of the Wild does have some good features, it is somewhat lacking when it comes to presentation. The graphics are workable but a little unspectacular, and the sound effects are disappointingly generic.

With generic sounds that could be taken from any game and graphics that look a little dated to say the least, the presentation side of Queen of the Wild leaves a lot to be desired.

Originality and creativity: 3/5

The slot is quite generic on this front, too. However, potentially limitless free spins and a fantastic high-paying symbol give the slot a lot of added creativity and enjoyability.

Play value: 3/5

Like I said earlier, this slot proved highly profitable for me, but I know that’s only one person’s experience. That said, the value was still decent, provided you can manage your bankroll effectively so you can hit the bigger value wins.

There’s not a massive jackpot available, but the chance to win multiple paylines and the fact that you can win big in the base game with the gorilla symbol give the slot a little extra.

I think there is more than enough here to keep players coming back. The gorilla symbol, use of wilds, and generous free spins round (when it can be triggered) are well worth trying to hit time and time again.

Queen of the Wild won me over from thinking it was unspectacular to enjoying a decent game with some decent wins. They say looks are not everything in this world, and this slot is a good example.
