I will be completely honest here. When I first saw the name Cherry Mischief attached to a slot, I thought that it would turn out to be a game based on cocktails. I’d envisaged a slot filled with glasses of different colors celebrating some of the most creative alcoholic drinks available.

However, Cherry Mischief slot machine is something altogether different. This is a game which, like several others reviewed in the past, is based on fairies and magical small people who all have slightly different hair color and clothing, but who are all rather beautiful. Strong genes must run deep in the fairy folk. I have yet to see an ugly one on a slot.

So, let’s take a look at whether this Cherry Mischief slot game is up to no good.

Overview: Cherry Mischief

The Cherry Mischief slot is a 5×3 reel game. It features a total of 40 selectable paylines. You can play 1, 10, 20, 30, or 40 paylines per spin. (Although we’d strongly advise playing the maximum number to gain the most enjoyment and potentially bigger wins.) You can wager from $0.01 up to $1.00 per payline. This gives you you a minimum bet of $0.40 and a maximum bet of $40.

The size of the biggest single line jackpot is 1,000 coins. While this isn’t very big, thanks to the super stacked symbol feature, it is possible to land several of the same symbols across the reels on a single spin, triggering multiple winning paylines. When this happens with the higher paying symbols, Cherry Mischief can offer wins greater than that single payline jackpot.

One of the nicest things about Cherry Mischief is that it’s very player-friendly. You can play at the pace suited to you. The Auto Play features allows you to play up to 25 spins.

However, double click on the Spin reel to activate a much faster spin with the reels coming to a halt almost instantly. This allows you to play at a quick pace and is ideal for slots gamers that don’t have as much time to play and allow each spin to play through in full.

The setting for the slot is a very colorful and beautiful wooded glade. There are babbling brooks and gentle waterfalls, all set against an assortment of colorful flowers and lush trees. The reels consist of the usual playing card low symbols (10 through to Ace). There are also four different fairies who are easily distinguishable by their color. There’s the green, orange, purple, and yellow fairy, with the latter being the highest paying of the quartet.

However, if you land five on a payline you win just 50 coins. This seems a very low amount considering your bet is 40 coins. But don’t despair. To win big on the Cherry Mischief slot, you need to trigger multiple paylines at once, thanks to the Super Stacked Symbol feature.

Every time you spin, one of the nine low- or high-value symbols is super stacked across the reels. Land this symbol across the reels to trigger multiple winning paylines and the size of your win can increase markedly. Land the five yellow fairy symbols on all 15 spots on the reels and win 2,000 coins.

Additional features

There’s a Wild feature symbolized by the Cherry Mischief logo. This offers a top prize of 1,000 coins per payline in the base game. It substitutes for all the higher and lower value symbols in the base game, but only substitutes for the lower value symbols in the free spins round.

The other feature to note is the Free Game feature. This is triggered when you land the butterfly symbol in all positions on reels 2, 3 and 4. This triggers 7 free spins, which can be increased up to 98 free spins by retriggering the bonus. In addition, during free spins, each time you land one of the purple, orange, or green fairies in the middle reel, you receive the credit value of the meter for that fairy. Without doubt the key feature of the slot is the Super Stacked Symbol. It is randomly selected at the start of each spin. When landed across the reels, this can result in the biggest payouts, both in the base game and during free spins.

Land nine of the Scatter symbol butterflies in all positions on reels 2, 3, and 4 and you trigger the free spins round with 7 free spins. During free spins, three of the fairies have their own meters. These increase with each fairy landed on the outer four reels. Land one of the fairies on the middle reel and you win the size of the cash value for that fairy’s meter. Free spins can be retriggered up to a maximum of 98 free spins.

Wild

The Cherry Mischief symbol is the in-game wild. It substitutes for all higher and lower value symbols in the base game and the lower value symbols in the free spins round. It also offers the largest single line win in the game of 1,000 coins for five on a payline.

What works?

Ease of play

I love the fact that you can double click the spin button to get an instant result of your spin. This allows players to play through many more spins in a stated time frame than they would be able to do if they let each spin run to its conclusion. That and the basic nature of the slot makes it a very easy game to play and enjoy.

Good mix of wins

Although most base game wins are very small (often less than your bet), there are a number of much bigger wins mixed in with these smaller wins. This fact does help keep you interested in the slot and adds to the value of the game.

Super Stacked Symbols

The Super Stacked symbol feature is the key element of the slot. So much so that without it, this slot would not work. There’s nothing more thrilling than seeing almost all, or even all the symbols turn into a single symbol signifying wins across all 40 possible paylines.

What doesn’t?

Simple graphics

Although the graphics on the slot are very colorful and beautifully done, they are not really that inspiring. Animations are very simple and there could have been a lot more done with the Fairy-theme than simply a couple of short animations against a static backdrop.

Free Spins hard to trigger

While the Super Stacked Symbol wins are relatively common, triggering the free spins round can take a considerable amount of time and can be very frustrating. In addition, there’s no guarantee that your wins in the free spins round will be that big. It can be so frustrating to finally trigger the bonus, only to land a relatively small win.

Most base game wins very small

The biggest gripe of the slot is that most base game wins are very small. Even five of a kind of the top paying fairy only pays out 50 coins. When you wager 40 coins per spin, that isn’t a very favorable return considering most payouts are based on three of a kind symbol, which pay out much less.

Graphics & soundtrack 2/5

Simple, colorful, and very pretty graphics are fine but this does look a little dated now against games that offer more animated backdrops and more inspiring sounds.

The Super Stacked Symbol is a fantastic addition to the slot and the fairy meters in the Free Spins round are also a neat addition to the game, but the rest of the slot is somewhat generic and offers little more than many other slots you can find.

The Cherry Mischief slot generally provides very small base game wins. However, these small wins are interspersed with much larger multiple payline wins. The combination really does bump up your balance and offers good value on the slot over the longer term.

Jackpot potential 1/5

1,000 coin jackpot in the base game isn’t particularly exciting and even triggering 40 winning paylines by turning all symbols to one only offers a maximum payout of 2,000 coins. This isn’t really a slot for the jackpot chaser.

Repeat play 3/5

I think the Super Stacked Symbols and free spins feature will keep people playing this slot and the fact that Cherry Mischief offers you a real mix of wins of all sizes, will likely keep most players coming back for a few spins every now and then.

Cherry Mischief is a slot with some great features but which is definitely a slot aimed at the medium- to low-variance player. The presentation is pretty but generally uninspiring. This is a shame, as this is a slot that with a few tweaks here and there could really be one of the very best.
