We have already taken a look at two of the famous slots inspired by the great polymath Leonardo Da Vinci, they were the original Da Vinci Diamonds and the exciting Da Vinci Diamonds Dual Play. However did you know that there was a third choice, which takes the original game and adds a little twist to the proceedings by having double symbols?
If not then you need to take a closer look at the Double Da Vinci Diamonds from High5 Games. In many ways, this is almost the exact same game as the original, but the fact that there are a number of double symbol slots on the reels introduces the prospect of up to 10 symbols on a payline and with it, some hefty sized wins for any player fortunate enough to land the big paying winning lines.
Overview: Double Da Vinci Diamonds
If you ever played the original Da Vinci Diamonds game then the Double Da Vinci Diamonds slot will be instantly recognizable. Almost everything about the two games is the same or very similar, with the only real difference, apart from minor cosmetic details, being that the Double Da Vinci Slot has three double symbol slots on the reels, one for each of the three Da Vinci portraits that make up the high value symbols in the game, and the number of paylines has doubled, from 20 to 40.
This means the size of the minimum bet increases to $0.40 if you want to play all paylines, while the maximum is capped at $40. You don’t have to play all 40 paylines. You can play 1, 10, 20 or 30 too, although betting on the full 40 is certainly the best way to enjoy better and more regular success on the slot.
Who will the Double Da Vinci Diamonds slot appeal to?
If you are a fan of any of the Da Vinci-themed slots then Double Da Vinci Diamonds will certainly be one on your must-play list. The game stylistically is very similar to the other games in the series but the slight changes to the symbols and the set-up mean that it is different enough to ensure you aren’t bored. I also found that this variation offers a different challenge to the two other games.
This is a slot that also has a decent Free Spins bonus round that features an additional Wild on the reels, although the Free Spins cannot be retriggered. This can result in some excellent wins across multiple paylines. The Tumbling Reels feature is also in play throughout the game which can result in several wins from a single spin, another feature that is popular with punters who like slots which offer them extra profit potential on every winning spin.
Gameplay: Double Da Vinci Diamonds
The first choice you have in Double Da Vinci Diamonds is how many paylines to play. We have found that 40 is by far the better option as it gives you more chances of a win and more chances of multiple payline
wins, as that is the method by which you will earn some of the biggest payouts available in the slot. As such, it is advisable to wager less but more paylines, rather than wager more on fewer paylines.
You can use the Auto Play feature to set up to 25 spins running automatically or just click the Spin button. The double-click for faster spins does not work on this slot as it is a Tumbling Reels game. This means that the symbols fall into space on the reels from above and that any winning paylines will disappear and be replaced from above by fresh symbols, potentially triggering additional wins from the same spin.
As in the original game, there are a number of precious gem stones. An amber stone, green emerald, and a red ruby act as the lower value symbols in the game. The higher value symbols are three of Da Vinci’s most famous portraits including his most famous, the enigmatic Mona Lisa.
Each of the high value symbols also has its own ‘double’ symbol, which counts as two when it occupies a single space on a reel. This means that it is possible to land 10 symbols on a single payline and for that you could win up to 5,000 coins. (Not an inconsiderable sum especially when you could possibly land that on more than one payline.)
Additional features
To help you land winning lines in the base game and Free Spins there is a blue Wild symbol on the reels. When this substitutes for lower value symbols it counts as a single symbol, but when it substitutes for the higher value symbols, it counts as a double symbol and as such can be used to land some big wins.
In order to trigger the Free Games bonus, you need to land three of the Free Games symbols across the first three reels. This will then trigger between 6 and 16 free spins. During free spins, the Free Games symbol will turn into a yellow wild symbol for the duration of the bonus which will operate on the reels in the same way as the blue Wild symbol would.
Free Spins cannot be retriggered from within the round, however with additional Wilds, your chances of landing a win are increased.

Tumbling Reels
On every spin, the Tumbling Reels feature is in action, which sees the symbols fall into place from above. Winning paylines disappear allowing fresh symbols to drop onto the reel and this can, in turn, create additional wins from a single spin.
Double symbols
Each of the three high-value symbols in the game have their own Double symbol across the reels. This can result in paylines of up to 10 symbols across a payline, which pays out the biggest single payline win available in the slot of 5,000 coins.
Wild
The blue Double Da Vinci Diamonds Wild symbol substitutes for all low-value symbols as a single symbol, but for the three higher value symbols as a double symbol. This can increase the value of wins considerably and also allows you to win on multiple paylines on a single spin.
What works?
Double symbols
The addition of the Double symbols is a nice touch. These can double the amount of paylines in play and act as an additional Wild on the reels in Free Spins and gives this game a new lease on life. It also differentiates it significantly from the original. There’s enough in this slot to keep you coming back for more, even if you still play the original.
Tumbling Reels wins
The Tumbling Reels feature is always a winner, especially when you can trigger bonus wins on a spin from symbols falling into place on the reels following a payline win. These additional wins are a huge bonus and do make you feel like the slot is giving excellent value for the money.
Free Spins bonus
The Free Spins bonus isn’t particularly easy to hit and it doesn’t offer a retriggering feature. On the upside, with an extra Wild on the reels, you can land some huge wins especially when paired with those important double symbols.
What doesn’t?
Lack of multipliers
If there is one thing sorely missing from the slot it is multipliers. Even the addition of some multipliers for wins completed by Wilds, or a Trail multiplier for successive wins on the Tumbling Reels feature, would have really given the game an added level of interest and excitement.
Free Spins can’t be retriggered
Earning between 7 and 16 free spins is fine but only really if you stand a chance of retriggering them to earn more. Unfortunately, this is not the case, although the extra Wild on the reels during Free Spins does soften the blow on occasions.
Small base game wins
One of the most disappointing aspects of the slot is the size of the smaller wins in the base game. These often don’t cover the cost of your initial bet meaning a win only results in a smaller loss.
The scores
Graphics & soundtrack 2/5
The graphics and soundtrack are similar to the original Da Vinci Diamonds game and, as such, they aren’t ever going to be the most creative and imaginative. They do the job and there are some nice flourishes, but this is an older slot and it’s starting to look its age now.
Originality & creativity 3/5
The addition of more paylines and the Double symbols, complete with the Tumbling Reels feature and additional Wild during Free Spins, does give this game a new lease on life compared to the original.
Play value 2/5
Unfortunately, the size of the most common wins in Double Da Vinci Diamonds are very small and this lets you down at times. These small wins, combined with tough to hit free spins and very hard to hit Double symbol wins, make this a hard slot to make a consistent profit on.

A top payline win of 5,000 coins is well worth noting, as you could trigger that potentially on more than one payline using Wild symbols. However, Double Da Vinci Diamonds isn’t a slot that offers a prize that will really catch the eye of the big jackpot hunter.

Would you want to play Double Da Vinci Diamonds again after playing it? In truth, this is a slot you’d play if you were interested and enjoyed the other two games in the series. However, this isn’t a slot that I feel has massive long-term appeal.

Double Da Vinci Diamonds is very similar to the original game but with some nice touches. Unfortunately, many of the flaws in that original are still evident in this remake and that does detract from its appeal.
