I must admit that when I saw the design work for the cover for the White Falls slot, it did remind me of the 1980s TV hit Twin Peaks, which also featured a large waterfall. I wondered if this was going to follow similar lines to the eerie ’80s classic and focus on the mystical and paranormal, but in actual fact, White Falls seems to be more akin to a modern take on Tarzan and Jane.

However, while that may sound like it has borrowed heavily from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ most famous creation, what is certainly true is that this is a slot that has been designed to be different from the bottom up. In fact, if you wanted to play a slot that defined “different” then the White Falls slot would be a great starting point. Let’s explain in more detail why.

Overview: White Falls

The first thing that is immediately apparent when you load up the White Falls slot is that it is a larger slot than usual. Instead of a 5×3 layout, White Falls is a 6×4 reel format and as a result the number of paylines you can play ranges from a minimum of 5, up to a maximum of 466. The minimum bet when playing all 466 lines is just $0.90 coins, which is great value for money.  You can increase the size of the bet you make using the multiplier up to 50 times the $0.90 bet (for a maximum bet of $45).

The setting for the slot seems to be some kind of island paradise and this provides the backdrop, although it is a slightly darker setting than you would initially assume. There is an Auto Play button available which allows you to play up to 25 spins automatically or you can click the spin button to get the reels spinning.

Who will the White Falls slot appeal to?

White Falls is certainly a difficult slot to pigeonhole. It’s theme is somewhat unusual and would appeal to lovers of romantic-themed slots as well as those who like a little fantasy and adventure element too.  However these aspects of the slot are less important than the design and the features it contains.

Certainly, White Falls is a slot that will appeal to a slot gamer seeking something a little different to the usual 5×3 slot. The greater number of reels and lines add depth to the slot and so does playing a large number of paylines. Slot gamers who enjoy games that offer something a little different to anything else will certainly find plenty to keep themselves amused here, especially if they are a medium to lower stakes player.

Gameplay: White Falls

Once you have selected the size of the multiplier to apply to your bet and the number of lines (though we’d strongly suggest playing all 466 lines with a smaller multiplier size, than playing fewer lines with a higher multiplier)  then it is simply a case of getting the reels spinning and seeing how you go.

The White Falls slot features the usual playing card low symbols on the reels as the smallest paying option, 10 through to ace and the higher value symbols include two spectacular fish, a handsome young gentleman who is rocking a Tarzan look, and the beautiful lady with the red flowers in her hair. The latter is the highest paying standard symbol in the game offering payouts of up to 400 coins for six on a payline.

What you will notice on the White Falls slot is that the individual payline payouts are not that large, however, you can trigger multiple payouts on a single spin and it is in this way that you can ramp up the winnings to far in excess of even the biggest single line jackpot payout.  Indeed, in trialling the game I hit a payout of over 1,500 coins on one spin, then on the very next spin, hit another win at over 900 coins.

How is this possible? Well the answer lies in how the key features of the slot are used in the game and in particular the Wild symbol.

Additional features

The Wild symbol is easy to spot and this symbol is stacked across reels 2 to 6. When you land stacked Wilds on several reels, you can trigger many more of the 466 paylines on a spin and as such, the size of the win can be increased massively.

Furthermore, you can use the Wild symbol in conjunction with the Jackpot symbol which only appears on reel 1. Hit the jackpot and Wild symbols on successive lines and you can win from 25 coins for a Jackpot and Two Wilds at the start of a payline, up to a top prize of 1,000 coins for a Jackpot and five other Wilds across the remaining five reels. Remember too, with Stacked Wilds, you may trigger more than one payline with a jackpot win, which radically increases its value.

Another key feature is the Free Games symbol, which when landed three on a payline triggers 5 to 7 free spins (if you play 100 lines or more) or 2-7 free spins if you play just the 5 paylines. During Free Games there is an additional Wild on the reels which will expand leftwards to cover all the symbols on a line until it reaches reel 1. This symbol is in addition to the standard Stacked Wilds on reels 2-6.

Once the Wild has expanded across the reels, then the size and number of wins are evaluated and the players return calculated.

Special features: White Falls

Jackpot symbol

The jackpot symbol appears on the first reel only and can only be triggered when landed with adjoining Wild symbols. You need two or more Wilds on a payline with the jackpot to trigger wins ranging from just 25 coins up to a maximum jackpot of 1,000 coins. Stacked Wilds can trigger multiple jackpot payout wins.

Free Games

Three or more of the Free Games scatter landed across the reels triggers a bonus game of between 5 and 7 free spins. During free spins any of the red wild symbols landed will see the wild expand left across the reels in a straight line, turning any symbols up to and including the symbol on the second reel completely wild.

Stacked base game wilds

During the base game (and for that matter, free spins), the Wild symbols are stacked on the reels and you can land multiple sets of these wilds across the reels to trigger multiple payline wins.

What works?

Great mix of wins

One of the most impressive aspects of this slot is that you can win a huge range of amounts ranging from small wins that don’t cover your wager, up to massive wins and you can trigger these wins both in the base game and also during free spins.

Excellent play value

Being able to play 466 paylines for 90 coins is an outstanding value slot and means that even with smaller top prizes on each of the paylines for each symbol, you still get great value for money for each spin.

Wild symbols

The way the White Falls slot uses Wild symbols, both Stacked in the base game and Stacked and Expanding in the free spins round, adds a huge amount to the game and indeed, it appears that most of the very biggest wins in this slot come when you land multiple Wild symbols stacked on the reels.

What doesn’t?

Lack of multipliers

If the game does lack a key fundamental aspect then it is the lack of a multiplier feature. There are no multiplier wins available in the game so to land bigger wins you are reliant on hitting those Stacked Wilds to trigger multiple winning paylines.

Small individual payline wins

It should also be noted that while we like the mix of wins, the smaller amount of wins and the more numerous wins are generally very small and often don’t cover your stake, hence if you hit a period when the slot runs cold, this can become an expensive slot to play at times.

Relatively small jackpot

With small payline wins a jackpot of 1,000 coins isn’t going to see many people rushing to play, however, you can win considerably more than that by triggering multiple payline wins on a spin.

The scores

[wp-review id=”8157″]

Graphics & soundtrack 3/5

The graphics and soundtrack of the White Falls slot are adequate without being spectacular. The graphics have been softly finished to give the game a more ethereal and romantic look and the symbols are well realized but there’s nothing truly groundbreaking here and the sound, in truth, is a tad generic and disappointing.

Originality & creativity 5/5

However, where the White Falls slot scores very well is in terms of originality. A 6×4 slot, with fantastic wild features and a superb free spins bonus game, plus the chance of a jackpot win using wilds. All very unusually presented and it works extremely well.

Play value 4/5

We’ve already mentioned that getting 466 paylines in play for 0.90 credits is superb value, but we have knocked a point off here for the numerous low value wins that you hit in the base game.

Jackpot potential 2/5

At 1,000 coins the individual payline jackpot isn’t huge but you can win considerably more than that if you can trigger Wild symbols with the jackpot and land multiple payline wins.

Repeat play 4/5

Without doubt there is more than enough in the White Falls slot to keep you coming back for more. This is certainly one slot you’ll be visiting often to enjoy a few additional spins for a wide variety of reasons.

Total score: 18/25

White Falls was a very pleasant surprise. From the moment it opened up until the final spin, I enjoyed how the slot played and the way it paid out. It does have some frustrations and isn’t quite in the elite group of slots, but it is not far off and certainly will attract many devotees.
