Devils bench staff
The Devils named Lindy Ruff the 19th head coach in team history in July 2020. Ruff is the former head coach of the Buffalo Sabres as well as the Dallas Stars. He has nearly 20 seasons of NHL head coaching experience. Ruff has compiled a head coaching record of 782-630-78.
Chris Taylor was bought in by Lindy Ruff to join the staff in 2020. Taylor served as the interim head coach of the Buffalo Sabres to finish the 2019-20 season. Brief Devils history
The Devils were originally founded as the Kansas City Scouts in 1974. They then moved to Denver and became the Colorado Rockies in 1976. Finally, in 1982 the franchise moved to New Jersey.
John McMullen owned the team from 1982 through 2000. In 2000, YankeeNets (a combination of the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets) bought the Devils. In 2004, the team was sold to Jeffrey Vanderbeek. Since 2013, the team has been owned by Josh Harris and David Blitzer.
The Devils had a borderline dynasty in the mid-1990s through the early 2000s. They made the playoffs in 21 of 24 seasons, winning three Stanley Cups under General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
Martin Brodeur was the goaltender for the Devils. Brodeur is arguably the best goalie in hockey history. Other key members of those teams include Patrik Elias, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, and Scott Gomez.
