New York Jets Odds

The New York Jets are a storied franchise that has its roots in the AFL. They were known as the New York Titans from 1960-62. After becoming the Jets, they won their only Super Bowl after the 1968 season.

They compiled an 11-3 season, defeated the Oakland Raiders 27-23 in the AFC Championship game, and then did the same to the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III on Jan. 12, 1969. It's viewed as one of the most famous games in NFL history, thanks in part to Joe Namath, the Jets' star quarterback.

These Jets, however, have not reached the playoffs since 2010. Is 2022 the year they reverse those fortunes? Nope.

The franchise once again finished last in the AFC East with a 7-10 record.

What is the Jets Moneyline?

If you like to keep things simple, then moneyline betting is for you. The goal is to pick the winner from the favorite or underdog, designated by negative and positive odds respectively.

For our example, there’s a wide range between the numbers, which indicates a paper mismatch in the eyes of oddsmakers. A closer span of something like -130/+110 points to a tighter affair.

What is the Jets Point Spread?

When betting on the spread, the goal is to figure out which side will cover. Oddsmakers set a number for each game which is basically like an estimated margin of victory.

How to bet on Jets player props and futures odds

The odds listed above are all moneyline wagers. It is one of the most common betting markets on sports, followed closely by point spreads and totals (over/under). But other Jets betting markets are available, too.

Prop betting

Proposition bets, or props, pertain to most everything beyond the moneyline wager - which is the straight outcome of the game - and the point spread.

Because of prop wagering, a gambler can select from literally hundreds of bets on every Jets game. In most cases, these bets are specific to a particular athlete's ability to reach a certain benchmark. Prop bets also often ask a question about a team or player's chances in a single game or during a season.

Here are some of the most prominent prop bets you might see for Jets games:

• Total individual yards, over-under: This can be rushing yards or passing yards. This often looks like an over-under of between 80-100 yards for a running back and 300 yards for a quarterback. It’s also a good cross-reference for your handicapping about the game. If you see a prop of 50-75 yards, for example, oddsmakers may expect the Jets to be passing more. Is that because they will be playing catch up?
• Winner for each half: Separate bets for the first and second halves. It’s tricky. The winning team in a game may still lose a half.
• Will the game be tied at halftime? It happens every now and then. Only around 10% of all NFL games will be tied at halftime, and usually pays around 10-1 at most books. You would be surprised at how few NFL games, even those with a point spread of less than a field goal, are tied at the half. That’s why it pays.

Futures betting

This wager literally concerns a result that will be determined in the distant future. It’s essentially a season-long prop for a team or individual.

These bets are popular regarding team win totals, individual-yardage numbers, the MVP race, or a head-to-head matchup. Here are three examples of futures betting for the NY Jets:

• Jets to win the Super Bowl: For the Jets, that may mean +10000, or 100-1 to win the Super Bowl. That’s the vicinity in which they are placed at most New Jersey online sportsbooks.
• Regular season win total for the Jets: The Jets have an over-under of 6.5 this year. It’s an exciting prop because it gives a gambler action every week, even those in which the player doesn’t have a good feel for one individual game. 1. Use the futures market as a guide: Over at DraftKings, the bar is set at 5.5 regular season wins, while the team is the last choice to win the AFC East at odds of +2200. While oddsmakers aren’t expecting any miracles, hitting six wins or so would have to count as marked improvement. Take the time to fully analyze this season’s schedule in the preseason. Do you see six wins or more? Once the games that matter get underway, be sure to focus on the current state of affairs and bet or pass accordingly.
2. The Breece Hall prop and rookie of the year: Breece Hall was looking to steady the Jets' RB position, and while he was drafted in the second round, he's heavy in the running for Rookie of the Year. DraftKings had him ranked second in odds with a +750 for the award, and set his over/under for total rushing yards to 830.5.

Jets’ quarterbacks over the last 20 years

For the 2022-23 season, Zach Wilson was primed to be the starting quarterback for the NY Jets.

However, between injury and inconsistent play, Wilson's future as the Jets starting QB remains up in the air.

In the last 20 years, there were some good and not-so-good names to hold that role. Some starting quarterbacks for the Jets only lasted a year. Here is a list of the Jets' starting quarterbacks in the last two decades:

• 2021-present: - Zach Wilson - High expectations followed the rookie, drafted second overall in the 2021 draft. During the 2022-23 season, Wilson played in nine games threw for 1,688 yards and six touchdowns over seven interceptions.
• 2018-2021: - Sam Darnold - selected third overall by the Jets in 2018, he played three seasons with the Jets before being traded to the Carolina Panthers.
• 2017: Josh McCown - A short-lived starter, he now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup quarterback.
• 2015-2016: Ryan Fitzpatrick - May have made the Jets the smartest team in the league. He’s from Harvard.
• 2013-2014: Geno Smith/Michael Vick - Two running quarterbacks, but little success.
• 2009-2012: Mark Sanchez - Took the Jets to the AFC championship game in 2010.
• 2008: Brett Favre - A short-lived run for one of the league's star players. Favre would later move to the Minnesota Vikings before retiring.
• 2002-2007: Chad Pennington - Longest reign as quarterback; led team to playoffs in 2002, 2004, and 2006.
• 2000-2001: Vinny Testaverde - Guided team to a playoff appearance in 2001.

Most Notable Head Coaches

The Jets have had some high-profile head coaches, including a Super Bowl winner. Only one of them, Bill Parcells, has a winning record of any coach who lasted more than one year. He fashioned a mark of 29-19 between 1997-99. Parcells previously guided the New York Giants to two Super Bowl championships.

Rex Ryan was a fan favorite for his refreshing candor to fans and sports media. He finished 46-50 with the Jets between 2009-14 but got them very close to an AFC title in 2010, when the Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-19. Ryan’s father, Buddy, was an assistant coach with the Jets when they won the Super Bowl.

Weeb Ewbank hit a 71-77 mark with the Jets between 1963-73, but he also brought them the big one. It was Ewbank’s Jets who dismantled the Colts in Super Bowl III. Ewbank has the most lifetime wins of any Jets coach.

Lou Holtz, the famed Notre Dame coach, did not fare well in the NFL. He was 3-10 with the Jets in 1976 and resigned during the last week of the season.

Robert Saleh is the current Jets coach. He took over the reins from Adam Gase following a dismal 2-14 season in 2020.
