Awarding of NJCOOP trophies highlight series first 10 days while some events have overlays

A total of 35 NJCOOP tournaments have now been completed from the original 60-event schedule. Those events have attracted more than 5,800 total entries (including re-entries), with prize pools adding up to $655,833.90.

The guarantees in those 35 events totaled $591,500. For the entire series the guarantees add up to just over $1 million, suggesting the total amount awarded in this year’s NJCOOP might land somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.1 million. That would rival the just over $1.12 million won during the 2020 version of NJCOOP.

So far just over a third of the tournaments have had overlays. There were 12 different events in which turnouts forced PokerStars NJ to make up the difference to meet the guarantees. Those overlays totaled a little more than $26,000. The largest of just over $7,500 came in a $25,000 guaranteed deep-stacked event early in the series.

One scheduled event, a $100 buy-in no-limit hold’em/pot-limit Omaha mixed event from yesterday (Event #32), does not show in the client and was presumably canceled.

Meanwhile, three NJCOOP Championship Trophies have been won so far. Player “monkeyman067” won the first trophy in the series Big Kickoff event, “kyleorto86” won another in a Super Tuesday. PokerStars NJ star “Stonniepokes” also took one in the $1,000 High Roller event, one of two events the player has one in the series.

Seven NJCOOP events have been designated “trophy events” this time. That means more trophies are up for grabs this week, including in the $300 Main Event that starts Sunday, Sept. 26. Click here to see the full remaining NJCOOP schedule.

Pennsylvania, Michigan outpacing New Jersey in COOP competition

PokerStars is in fact staging COOP series on all three of its US sites during the same Sept. 10-27 window. To this point, both PokerStars PA and PokerStars MI have enjoyed much larger turnouts and prize pools that has been the case in New Jersey.

PokerStars PA is leading the charge so far with about $1.27 million awarded through 41 PACOOP events. Those events drew nearly 15,000 entries.

PokerStars MI has also had big turnouts through its first 40 MICOOP events with more than 11,000 entries to this point. Players in Michigan have won nearly $1 million in prize money in MICOOP tournaments so far.

Differing guarantees signaled PokerStars’ expectations in all three states. In Pennsylvania, the PACOOP guarantees total $2 million and in Michigan the MICOOP guarantees add up to $1.5 million.

NJCOOP two-day Main Event coming Sunday, $100,000 guarantee

As noted, the NJCOOP is heading toward a climactic finale this weekend with a two-day, $300 buy-in Main Event sporting a series-high $100,000 guarantee. There are satellites running to give players less expensive paths into the Main Event. There are also other cheaper ways to win seats.

Also coming earlier in the day on Sunday, Sept. 26 is a NJCOOP Depositor Freeroll. PokerStars NJ players who deposit $30 or more using the promo code “NJCOOP” automatically receive entry into the freeroll. The top 50 finishers in the tournament will win Main Event seats, meaning there are $15,000 worth of Main Event tickets to play for in the event.

Main Event seats are also still being awarded in select $3 Spin & Go’s this week. Also, any player busting from a NJCOOP event without cashing wins entry into the following day’s Second Chance Freeroll. Those events are awarding $5,000 in NJCOOP tickets throughout the series.

Here is a look at the turnouts, prize pools, and overlays in NJCOOP events so far.
