AGA, FanDuel Join Forces To Help NJ Gamblers Form Game Plans To Gamble Responsibly

Perhaps the most harped-on point when it comes to gambling responsibly is to set limits for yourself prior to beginning. A new educational campaign, Have a Game Plan, aims to build on that concept in jurisdictions that FanDuel Sportsbook operates in.

It’s a new collaboration between FanDuel and the American Gaming Association. The program will not only involve media but provide online resources as well. FanDuel intends to get its partners involved in the program as well.

The plan for Have a Game Plan

In a press release, FanDuel touts itself as the first mobile sportsbook operator to join the AGA in its gambler education campaign. The aim of the campaign is to promote the fundamentals of responsible sports betting.

To that end, FanDuel intends to use all of its digital and physical properties. That will include league and team assets, such as digital, in-venue, radio, and television media. Bettors should expect to see some of the same content on FanDuel’s own apps, social media accounts, and websites.

The content will stress the importance of doing things like setting a budget and then sticking to it. It will also detail signs of compulsive gambling issues. The resource list will include direct bettors to appropriate agencies in their states.

“As the mobile gaming industry leader in the U.S., we believe promoting responsible gaming behaviors is a core tenet of growing our business and the industry as a whole,” said Matt King, CEO of FanDuel Group. “We are not only going to commit substantial FanDuel resources to promote Have a Game Plan but we intend to build a consortium of partners throughout the sports and gaming business to scale this initiative and we encourage other operators to join us.”

The next time you open the app to bet on a Brooklyn Nets game, you might see messaging across these lines. One of the most crucial aspects of gambler education is the importance of choosing regulated operators.

Betting legally is part of responsible gaming

While it’s true that FanDuel definitely stands to benefit from sports bettors only placing their wagers with legal sportsbooks, the necessity of that is bigger than just FanDuel’s monthly handle. Regulated sports betting in New Jersey creates a better landscape for bettors.

Legal sportsbooks participate in the state’s self-exclusion program. That not only means they won’t accept account registration attempts from people on those lists but they also won’t market their products to the same.

In addition, taxes on regulated books’ revenues fund treatment programs for people with compulsive gambling issues. FanDuel’s own platform includes customizable controls like self-imposed deposit and time limits.

None of the illegal sportsbooks can make the same claims. However, teaching New Jerseyans to recognize an illegal operator, and why that matters, takes some initiative. FanDuel has shown that initiative here.
