Michael Monty has been named general manager of Bally’s Atlantic City, according to the casino hotel.

Monty, a military veteran and Yale University graduate, has been the property’s assistant general manager. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of Bally’s AC and its nearly 1,500 employees.

Bally’s AC was purchased for $25 million by Bally’s Corporation (formally Twin River Worldwide Holdings) in 2020. The 42-year-old Boardwalk casino hotel is currently undergoing more than $100 million in renovations and upgrades.

Bally’s Corp. recently entered the New Jersey online gaming market with the launch of Bally Casino.

Former GM Nicholas Polcino will assume a similar role at another Bally’s-owned property in the Northeast. Polcino, an industry veteran whose gaming career started at Bally’s AC, successfully guided the property through the ownership change.

More on the new top man at Bally’s AC

The new leader of Bally’s Atlantic City comes with a battle-tested vita that looks a little different than most casino executives.

Monty is a former captain in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Army Ranger School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy.

His military resume includes combat service as a platoon leader in Afghanistan.

Monty also earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

After working in real estate and private equity, he joined Bally’s Corp. (then TRWH) in 2018 as director of corporate finance, focusing on acquisitions and development of casino resorts, slot routes, and gaming technologies.

Big changes at Bally’s Atlantic City

Monty takes over an iconic casino hotel in the midst of a significant overhaul.

In the last 18 months, Bally’s Atlantic City has added a permanent FanDuel-branded retail sportsbook, several new restaurants, and completely revamped the high-limit slot and table rooms.

Nearly one-third of the 750 hotel rooms and suites scheduled for renovation are complete. The casino marked 222 room renovations on Feb. 22, 2022. Bally’s hopes to have most of the rooms done by Memorial Day weekend.

A brand new lobby bar is underway and should be open soon. The hotel lobby will be getting a makeover this year, too.

Also coming this summer is The Yard, an indoor/outdoor beer hall and live entertainment venue. Construction of a 5,100-square-foot addition to the Dennis Hotel courtyard began earlier this year.
