WSOP online bracelet events for NJ poker players

The World Series of Poker is just over three months away. The WSOP has been dripping out pieces of the schedule periodically to build excitement for the summer grind. It is working.

For poker players in New Jersey, however, the most important part of the schedule was recently released, which are the online bracelet events on WSOP.com.

WSOP online bracelet events were first offered in New Jersey in 2018. Four online poker tournaments took place that year, and Matthew ‘mendey’ Mendez became the first person outside of Nevada to claim a WSOP bracelet during the summer tournament.

Fast forward to the WSOP 2020 and NJ online poker players will have even more chances to earn the coveted gold bracelet when 14 online bracelets events take place on the virtual felt.

Danielle Barille, WSOP.com’s director of online poker, commented about the additional WSOP.com online events in a press release.

“We believe the 2020 offering of online gold bracelet events features our best schedule yet. This year we offer a consistent schedule of Sunday events every week of the WSOP, plus a special selection of eight events from June 28 to July 5 to coincide with the biggest week of the live WSOP when most players are in town to play.”

WSOP 2020: What you need to know

According to the WSOP, players in Nevada and New Jersey are eligible to compete for online bracelet events.

This year, WSOP online bracelet events will start at 6:30 p.m. EST, with one exception. The $10,000 Super High Roller on July 2 will begin at 3 p.m. EST.

Players can vie for online bracelet events on WSOP.com from their NJ poker app or desktop, except for the Pot-Limit Omaha event on June 7. Players in that event must have a desktop connection.

As in previous years, players can multi-table live and online events inside the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, home to the WSOP.

One thing worth noting is the absence of one booming poker market from the press release: Pennsylvania.

Currently, only PokerStars is operating in the Keystone State, and there is no word on when WSOP.com will launch in PA. Even if it does launch in time, there is no indication that PA is ready to sign the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).

Last year, online bracelet events in New Jersey were threatened because of a new Wire Act interpretation issued by the Department of Justice.

The WSOP went ahead with the events once it was confident in its legal standing. It is obviously still confident going into the summer.

NJ online poker players can expect some changes

Last year, all but two of the nine events were re-entry tournaments allowing a player to re-enter the tourney up to three times.

This year, only one event will offer the multiple re-entry format, the PLO seven-handed event on June 7. There will be three freeze-out events; the remaining 10 events will offer a single re-entry.

The schedule aligns with a shift to fewer re-entries, which is similar to the summer WSOP events in Rio.

Additionally, it seems there will be an online poker leaderboard.

While no details were made available, it appears the 14 WSOP.com online bracelet events will track points throughout the summer. The press release mentioned a winner and prizes.

Be on the lookout for more details as we get closer to the opening of the WSOP.
